TOUR CLOVERNOOK CENTER

Lisa Hall is celebrating Louis Braille's 198th birthday during National Braille Literacy Month in January by arranging tours at the Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in College Hill.

Hall, a Braille proofreader at the center, was recently appointed to the Braille Authority of North America's board. She will join 32 other board members who will meet twice a year to regulate Braille formats and guidelines.

The board also publishes rules, and interprets and renders opinions pertaining to Braille in all existing codes.

At Clovernook, Hall is part of a team of Braille transcribers and proofreaders who prepare more than 15 magazines and 150 other publications.

She is thrilled to be a part of the Braille community, where she can help make a difference in the lives of people with vision loss. "I think some of the things I have experienced will help the board in its mission to promote the use of Braille," Hall said. "I don't think there are enough people using Braille."

Statistics she has compiled show 10 percent of visually impaired people use Braille.

"Lisa's dedication to Braille and continuing education make her the right choice to represent Clovernook on the BANA board," said Robin L. Usalis, Clovernook president and CEO.
